Thailand
Photos from Bangkok, the bustling capital of Thailand. I've spent about two weeks there, and find it endlessly fascinating--you never know what's going to turn up around the corner. Elephants, tattoo artists working with a bamboo needle-holder and tiny cups of dye, street vendors selling fried grasshoppers and insects, or a thoroughly modern skyscraper with an embedded 7-11 store.

Photos from Ko Chang, "Elephant Island" on the east coast of Thailand, near the Cambodian border. I spent five days there, living in a bamboo hut without electricity, lazing about on an utterly deserted beach and drinking coconut juice from the coconut palms by the hut. The sunsets were amazing.

I also went elephant trekking, so there are a number of very cool pictures of me with elephants. After watching my elephant nonchalantly uproot banana palms 5" thick while sauntering around the jungle, I've decided that elephants are way cool. Living bulldozers!

Photos from Chiang Mai, Thailand's second biggest city and center for Thai handicrafts and hilltribes. At left is a woman making a repousse bowl from sterling silver.
